New techniques in robotic surgeries in Ciudad de la Salud generate benefits for patients who suffer from fibroids, by improving blood loss, when there are many fibroids or they are very large.
Dr. Miguel Ángel Cáceres, gynecological oncologist and robotic surgeon at Ciudad de la Salud, explained that myomas or fibromas in women are benign tumors that arise from the muscle of the uterus, but are more difficult to remove in laparoscopy procedures.
He added that with the robotic system, surgical times are reduced to a point where the patient has little anesthetic exposure.
“Myomectomy is a robotic surgery procedure that benefits the patient by reducing blood loss, since in conventional surgery it is a procedure that has significant blood loss, because it works on the uterus muscle,” he added.
He highlighted that another advantage is that when performing extractions, the ideal is not to have to open the wall of the uterus, so with robotic techniques it is much easier to perform the extraction vaginally.
Other benefits offered by this new technique
With robotic surgeries, surgical times are reduced to a point where the patient has little anesthetic exposure.
Additionally, the patient can preserve the uterus for women who have not had children or wish to have children.
Dr. Cáceres stated that if the case is very prolonged, when multiple fibroids are performed, conventional surgeries can last up to 5 to 6 hours, but in the case of robotic techniques it is reduced to between 40 to 60 minutes and this allows other procedures to be performed. more cases, allowing surgery on more patients with complicated cases.
