Lionel Messi, considered one of the best footballers of all time, is preparing for what could be his last match against the Bolivian team this Tuesday at the Más Monumental stadium in Buenos Aires (8:00 p.m.), on date 10 of the South American Qualifiers.
The captain had his first confrontation against La Verde on November 17, 2007, in a qualifying match for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. That time, the Albiceleste won 3-0 with a double from Juan Román Riquelme and a goal from Sergio Aguero.
Shortly after, Messi’s worst experience against Bolivia came, when on April 1, 2009, at the Hernando Siles stadium in La Paz, he suffered a historic 6-1 win. In that match, Argentina was led by Diego Armando Maradona.
The only time Messi scored a double against La Verde was on July 28, 2021, on the last date of the group stage of the Copa América 2021. That match ended 4-1 and was the tournament in which the Albiceleste put end to a 28-year drought without titles.
The ‘Pulga”s first hat trick against Bolivia came on September 9, 2021. It was played at the Monumental and Messi was the scorer of all three goals (3-0). Already with Lionel Scaloni in charge, the Albiceleste began to direct its conquest in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Messi’s last match against Bolivia took place last year in September; However, he did not participate in that match and remained on the bench without entering. It was a comfortable 3-0 for the Argentines at the Hernando Siles stadium in La Paz, confirming that the Albiceleste, after the World Cup in Qatar, was no longer ‘Messidependent’.
At 37 years old, Messi could play his last match against the Bolivian team this Tuesday, given that in the next World Cup qualifiers he will be close to turning 40 years old.
