Colombia will reinforce security on the border with Venezuela

The governor of Norte de Santander (Colombia), William Villamizar, said that they will allocate nearly 80 billion pesos in a development plan to acquire security equipment

The border between Colombia and Venezuela, specifically in the department of Norte de Santander, has registered a significant increase in violence in recent months and in light of this situation, the Colombian authorities have announced a reinforcement of security measures on the Tachira border.

The governor of Norte de Santander, William Villamizar, declared: “We are aiming for nearly 80 billion pesos that are in our development plan in equipment, in cameras, in the possibility of reward payments, in construction of the La Parada police district that will be completed in six months.

More than 300 police officers will be added to security in the La Parada sector, Villa del Rosario municipality that borders San Antonio del Táchira, Bolívar municipality in Venezuela.

“We highlight this entire task of support and accompaniment to the National Police and that gives the opportunity to give it 320 new agents for surveillance on the border and in the metropolitan area of ​​Cúcuta,” Villamizar added.

For his part, the Minister of Defense of Colombia, Iván Velásquez, expressed his concern about the high rates of violence in the border area and they hope to reduce the red numbers with the new agents.
