Mural unveiled for FIFA soccer cup celebration

The Mayor’s Office of the National District and the General Directorate of Strategic and Special Projects (Propeep) unveiled this Monday a mural on George Washington Avenue to celebrate the U-17 Women’s Soccer World Cup.

The mayor Carolina Mejia He stated that the city council and the Government are committed to supporting young women to fulfill their dreams. He said his family has always been involved with football, starting with his older brother, one of his sons and nephews.

“This mural that we are unveiling will not only beautify our city, but also symbolizes the strength, talent and determination of the girls and women who have gone far in this sport,” said the mayor.

It motivated us to continue working together to create an environment where every girl and every young woman feels inspired to pursue their dreams, to play, to lead and shine in any field they choose.

The general director of Propeep, Roberto Angel Salcedohighlighted the positive impact that the “Paseo de Colores” model has had, which has been replicated in the different provinces across more than 60 square meters of public art.

“When our friends and collaborators from the Mayor’s Office of the National District approached us to stimulate through art all the preparations around this sporting event that will mark an important milestone in Dominican sports history, we saw it as a great opportunity to stimulate two fundamental pillars for our youth, culture and sports,” said Salcedo.

He murallocated on the wall of the old Santo Domingo Hotel on the capital’s Malecón, has more than 523 square meters, which highlights some of the most emblematic historical monuments of the country, such as the Santo Domingo Town Hall Palace, the Obelisk, the Plaza of the Flag and the Monument of Fray Antón de Montesinos, which highlight the Dominican cultural identity.

The event was held in connection with the fact that the sports event will take place from this Wednesday, October 16 to November 3, with the participation of 16 countries and which is sponsored by the International Federation of Associated Football (FIFA). In that order, representatives of the participating nations paraded during the event, carrying their respective flags.

At the end of the activity there was an artistic presentation by merengue player Manny Cruz and a display of fireworks.
