A partnership between Petrobras and the mining company Vale aims to promote the decarbonization of the mining company’s activities. The details of the initiative will be announced soon, informed the president of Petrobras, Magda Chambriard.
“We are going to help Vale decarbonize its mining and we are going to form a partnership for the two companies to help each other,” she said, during a breakfast with journalists, as part of the company’s 71st anniversary celebrations.
According to Magda, the partnership involves developing renewable fuel to serve truck, rail and navigation transportation. “Imagine a Petrobras fleet and Vale’s fleet in terms of boats with 24% renewable fuel”, she said, adding: “we don’t want to be competitors with agriculture. We’re going to be partners. We’re going to buy vegetable oil from agriculture to make a renewable diesel.”
Reusing platforms
The president of the state-owned company informed that Petrobras’ new business plan, which should be released in November, will provide details on the reuse of platforms that would be deactivated. According to Magda, the company set up a working group to evaluate the conditions of the platforms and verify the financial viability of the initiative.
“Particularly, we don’t like to throw away things that could have a more noble use, including for the benefit of the Brazilian shipping industry. Let’s see what we have time to do by November to include or not in this plan”, he said.
New platforms
Regarding new exploration platforms, the executive director of Exploration and Production, Sílvia dos Anjos, said that Petrobras is facing a challenge in carrying out new tenders due to the high investment cost.
“Brazil needs more affordable platforms. Prices started to get very high. We understand the difficulties of our suppliers, but we will have to be more creative and they too so that there is space for fairer development of the Campos Basin, otherwise we will leave behind reserves and an intense potential that Petrobras cannot consider doing it”, said President Magda, in agreement with the director of exploration and production.
Contest
With no new competitions expected, the executive director of corporate affairs, Clarice Coppetti, reported that since May the company has hired more than 3,500 employees, in part with the call for a higher-level reserve registration that was expiring last year.
“We have not foreseen any new selection process, but this is always a discussion that follows and there is deliberation in the executive board itself regarding the need for us to incorporate new workers”.
According to her, in June Petrobras approved the hiring of 957 technical level employees who have already been called up and are in the process of proving the requirements and medical examinations. Admission will be on November 5th. “Today we have more than 40,900 workers in the company. We are going to incorporate another 957 and all the selection processes that we have carried out have followed the issue of diversity”, he said.
