In order to measure the response capacity of the Panamanian Red Cross, an auxiliary entity of the State, a mock search was carried out this Sunday in collapsed structures in the old facilities of the Azuero Anita Moreno Regional Hospital.
Dr. Cristina Correa, Deputy Medical Director of the Los Santos Health Region, actively participated in this day that involved ambulances, canines trained to search for trapped people and specialized personnel in the various facets that real action requires after an earthquake.
“At the Minsa level we support this type of initiative, because training and being prepared for an earthquake or any event is prevention,” Correa said.
Daniel González, National Head of Risk Management of the Panamanian Red Cross, pointed out that it is the first time that the entity measures its response capacity in search, rescue, psychosocial support and pre-hospital care.
During the exercise, a water treatment plant was also installed to respond to the emergency, due to the fundamental role that the water and sanitation part plays in an emergency of this type.
