The National Electoral Commission of the Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP) Last night it issued its first bulletin with the preliminary results of the elections, according to which the candidate of the teaching current Eugenio María de Hostos and current president of the union, Eduardo Hidalgoof the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) and allies, leads with 5,125 votes for 66.36%.
While his closest contender, the representative of the current José Francisco Peña Gómez and allies, Nolberto Ortizof the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), registered 1,999 for 25.88%.
Meanwhile, through the Fuerza Magisterial and Hermanas Mirabal currents, Adhamilka Espinalfrom the People’s Force Party (FP), obtained 467 votes for 6.5%.
Who is Eduardo Hidalgo?
Eduardo Hidalgo won the elections for the presidency of the Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP) for the fourth time.
He is a prominent Dominican educator and union leader who has played a fundamental role in the Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP), the largest union in the education sector in the Dominican Republic.
Throughout his career, he has focused on defending the rights of teachers and improving working conditions in the country’s educational system.
Hidalgo has been president of the ADP on multiple occasions, including his most recent re-election in 2024.
During his administration, he has promoted reforms that seek to strengthen public education and has advocated for improvements in salaries, working conditions for teachers, and quality education for Dominican students.
It has also focused its work on the protection of retired and pensioned teachers, seeking to guarantee them a dignified life after years of service.
Regarding his political career, Hidalgo is aligned with the Dominican Liberation Party and has received recognition from both his colleagues and important political figures.
Previous presidencies
In the last process he won with 35,441 votes, for 47.46% of the total votes.
He had also chaired the union during 2012-2015. e Eugenio María de Hostos in the different sections, motivating the triumph of his proposal to guarantee the demands of the teaching profession and avoid the total collapse of the national educational system.
Hidalgo has been the president of the teachers’ union since October 2021 after winning the votes of the Adepeista elections with more than 47%.
Likewise, he held the position during the period 2012-2015.
