Marita Barreto is accused of three implications: having ordered the provincial prosecutor Naomi Bustillos to denounce the journalist Carlos Paredes, write articles in a book on Criminal Law with the participation of another prosecutor from Eficcop and having leaked information to the journalist José Carlos Paredes about the Guillermo Bermejo case.

Marita Barreto’s lawyer, Luciano López, explained that although journalist Paredes has been willing to provide an 18-minute audio in which it would be demonstrated that he met with the prosecutor, he specified that said recording would not contain any revelation of information. For his part, Barreto did not deny that he had met with the journalist but he did rule out that he had revealed information. “I have not leaked information. I submit to all the investigations and all the expertise that must be given but with respect for my right to defense and due process,” he indicated in the TV program.

After the National Prosecutor, Juan Carlos Villena, signed the dismissal of Barreto from Eficcop, the rest of the members of the aforementioned special team published a statement in which they supported the senior prosecutor. In the statement, Eficcop prosecutors classify the sanction as disproportionate, since it would be based only on information disseminated by the media that has not been corroborated.
