Residents of Pedernales described this Thursday as useless the process implemented by the Dominican authorities to deport Haitian nationals, since, just fifteen minutes after being expelled, they return to Dominican territory.
They expressed that, as long as the deportations continue towards the neighboring town of Anse-à-Pitre, Haiti, which is located just five hundred meters from Pedernales, the effort will not give the expected results.
“Every day, the authorities carry out deportations without any result, since the deportees are removed in large numbers and return quickly,” they declared.
They recalled that, years ago, the then Minister of DefenseRubén Darío Paulino Sem, implemented a cross-border deportation method “with great success,” but it was alleged to be very costly.
