CUED clarifies that the EDE have not established a position for or against the installation of solar panels

CUED aclara que las EDE no han fijado posición a favor ni en contra de instalación de paneles solares

The Unified Council of Electricity Distribution Companies (CUED) clarified that the electricity distribution companies Edesur, Edenorte and Edeeste have at no time established a position for or against the installation of solar panels and the population’s access to solar energy.

CUED president, Celso Marranzini, observed that electricity distribution companies are agents of the electricity market and, therefore, do not fulfill regulatory functions.

It specifies that the entity responsible for regulating the electricity sector in the country is the Superintendency of Electricity (SIE), which dictates the normative and regulatory provisions that must be complied with by all participants in the market.

“Any decision of the SIE that affects market actors can be challenged through the corresponding legal mechanisms, established to guarantee compliance with regulations in the sector,” he points out.

Marranzini stressed that “distribution companies should not be made to dance in a festival that does not belong to them, since making unfounded statements is a deception to the public and the reality of the sector.”

CUED reiterates its commitment to transparency and respect for current regulations, always working for the benefit of users and the sustainable energy development of the Dominican Republic.
