“More than 8 million people (in the world) die every year from the consumption of tobacco and its variants or derivatives. Of these, one million 200 thousand people die as a result of those on the left or right side who are consuming tobacco,” said Congressman Alejandro Soto.
For the APP parliamentarian, in Peru it is necessary to have a legal framework that regulates the consumption and sale of tobacco. “The main purpose – under PL 4717 authored by Soto – is to prohibit all advertising about tobacco,” he added.
Regarding this point, the rule applies the total prohibition of advertising, promotion and sponsorship of tobacco products or their substitutes. Also Advertising, promotion or sponsorship in health or education establishments, whether public or private, is prohibited; in public agencies; and in a radius of 500 meters around educational centers where minors attend.
Any type of communication that promotes them in graphic media aimed at minors and in activities in which their entry is admitted is prohibited.

On another point, the law provides that The sale of tobacco products, nicotine products, electronic nicotine delivery systems and similar products without nicotine is prohibited (VAPERS) and their accessories to minors and by minors.
The sale of packaging of less than ten units is also prohibited, as is the delivery to minors of promotional products, gift samples of tobacco products, nicotine products, nicotine vapes or similar products without nicotine or its substitutes.
