The Permanent Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice began the review of the sentence of 22 years and 5 months in prison imposed against the former congressman Michael Urtecho for cutting salaries for workers in his parliamentary office.
The former legislator, it is recalled, was sentenced in August 2023 by the Special Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court, which established that the former representative of National Solidarity and his wife Claudia González forced the servants to improperly give him part of their salaries.
The aggrieved were Gladys Flores, Evelyn Goycochea, Elvia Urbina, Jorge Huilman, Manuela Chávez, Estela Bocanegra and Carla Paredes, who had part of their salary and settlements withheld as a condition for hiring, promoting them and renewing their contracts.

On that occasion, the Judiciary He also sentenced Urtecho’s wife, Claudia González Valdivia, to 28 years in prison as an accomplice.
Both sentences were appealed and will now be reviewed.
According to the Judicial Branch, Urtecho took advantage of his position as a congressman, his leadership in the Agua Viva Evangelical Church of Trujillo and his disability to irregularly increase his assets by more than two million soles between the years 2006 and 2013 through the misappropriation of the salaries of their workers.
He, along with his wife, ordered the injured parties to hand over the bank cards where their salaries were deposited as well as their secret password. Later, González withdrew the money from electronic ATMs and only gave a portion of the amount to the workers.
