The selection of new members of the National Board of Justice advances despite doubts about transparency

The interviews They will take place on October 17despite the questions and concerns expressed at the end of September, when 62 citizen organizations and groups presented the report called Citizen Balance, which La República accessed, and where they maintained that there was a lack of transparency and guarantees in said selection process.

At the beginning of the process, there were 51 registered in the contest, of which four candidates have had links with people investigated by a criminal organizationwhile another six have been linked to political parties such as Fuerza Popular, according to research by Ojo Público. Furthermore, after the knowledge test, only 23 of the 51 applicants approved and, after the curricular evaluation, there are now 15 in the race.

Recently, the Special Commission for the election of new members of the National Board of Justice (JNJ) decided to reverse its initial decision to exclude lawyers Mónica Rosell, Francisco Távara and Víctor Chanduví of the public merit contest. The exclusion occurred after having detected that said applicants did not present on time the Bar Association qualification certificate, necessary to prove 25 years of experience. However, after the appeals for reconsideration presented by the three candidates, The Commission resolved on Thursday, October 10 declare said appeals founded, allowing the applicants to continue in the selection process.

Despite all these observations, the Special Commission has continued with the process and has announced that the results of the interviews will be announced on Sunday, October 27. Subsequently, on October 28, the final merit list will be published, and on October 30, the new directors who will replace the current members of the National Board of Justice and they would assume their positions in January and February 2025.
