The executive secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples’ Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP), Jorge Arreaza, affirmed today that October 12 will always be the Day of Indigenous Resistance.
Through Telegram, the diplomat pointed out that precisely on that date Spain celebrates its National Day.
“If that is not an affront against the native peoples of Our Latin America and the Caribbean, I would not be able to say what else it is,” he pointed out.
The ALBA-TCP director stated that “not a single gesture of humility and forgiveness in 532 years.”
Arreaza asserted that out of mere respect for humanity, “the least the new Spanish generations could do is change the date of their national holiday.”
October 12 for us is and will be the Day of Indigenous Resistance, “a day of dignity and respect for our people.”
Government of Venezuela highlighted the value of indigenous peoples
This Saturday the Government of Venezuela highlighted the value of the indigenous peoples who left behind their example of firmness, perseverance and dignity, despite facing the most ferocious aggression known to humanity.
A statement from the Foreign Ministry reiterated the importance of keeping alive the struggle and resistance of “our indigenous and Afro-descendant people, and valuing their current contributions to the strengthening of society.”
And it also serves for the transition to a new era that leaves discrimination, supremacism and impunity behind, he said.
Faithful to its anti-imperialist and anti-colonial tradition, the Bolivarian Republic expressed that the process of aggression against the peoples of Our America “cannot be celebrated nor can it be qualified as a civilizational enterprise.” He pointed out that this has been responsible for – as the Liberator Simón Bolívar wrote – “barbarities that the present age has rejected as fabulous, because they seem superior to human perversity; and they would never be believed by modern critics if constant and repeated documents did not testify to these unfortunate truths.
The Bolivarian government stated that it is the responsibility of all humanity to promote channels to make effective the recognition, justice and reparation of these crimes against humanity, PL reported.
