The Governor of Corrientes, Gustavo Valdespresented this Wednesday morning a program called “Renacer Iberá”, which contemplates an investment of 400 million pesos to recover the Esteros del Iberá area, native vegetation and wildlife affected by fires and drought.

In the Yellow room of the Government House, the president of Corrientes announced that 200 million are immediate resources that will be allocated to the Iberá Committee to begin the reconstruction and the rest will go to the Aguará Center to care for wild animals.

Regarding the environmental catastrophe caused by the fires, he expressed that “it is the biggest blow” that the province had and said that it greatly affected “our native forests and our fauna.”

“All the portals (of the Iberá marshes) had problems with the fire,” he said, adding that “this drought has never been experienced” and then announced that a “plan aimed at recovery” was drawn up.

In relation to the 200 million pesos that will be allocated to the “Aguará Wildlife Conservation Center”, he said that “it is doing an incredible job” with the affected animals.

On the other hand, he anticipated that they will seek “resources from national and international organizations to recover this natural heritage of the Argentines and the world”.

“I fully trust that this catastrophe will unite us and allow us to have clear goals for the future, all together. Only in this way are we going to rebuild nature, look to the future together, and this is the first step for Iberá to be reborn,” he concluded.
