Opposition leaders begin to structure a political alliance and programmatic proposal for the 2025 general elections
The capital of Tarija was the epicenter of the meeting that took place on Friday, in the middle of a lunch to exchange views on the construction of this opposition alternative.
Ten and a half months before the elections, there is agreement among political leaders to advance and consolidate the alliance until the end of this year or the beginning of 2025.
The political meeting was held at the initiative of the national head of the MNR, Johnny Torres, after receiving information about the electoral roll from the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE).}
“These are rapprochements that are taking place between leaders and opposition parties. Surely it will be a process that will take a little longer, but the people of the opposition are clear about the need for unity,” said Roberto Moscoso, executive secretary of the front. National Unity (UN).
Moscoso attended the meeting on behalf of the president of that group and businessman, Samuel Doria Medina.
The leader of the Citizen Movement for Change 25 and rector of the Gabriel René Moreno University, Vicente Cuéllar, recognized that it is possible to form the alliance and work is being done on this political alternative.
“This is a first approach and the alliance or unity has to be based on a vision and a country project. I believe that this alliance will take place until the end of the year,” Cuéllar declared.
The president of the Left Revolutionary Front (FRI), Edgar Guzmán, agreed with the rector, saying that it is expected to be completed by the end of 2024 because there is the political will of: Carlos Mesa, Jorge “Tuto” Quiroga, Luis Fernando Camacho and the other opposition leaders.
In his opinion, an opposition political force must be built that is capable of defeating the MAS at the polls and then dedicate itself to rebuilding a country destroyed by the party in government since 2006.
The former civic leader of Santa Cruz, Branko Marinkovic, admitted that progress is being made in conversations between opposition leaders and work is being done on a proposal whose fundamental pillar is that there is no re-election because it did great damage to democracy in the country.
“I want a better Bolivia, where we can have the same vision among all politicians, that is good for the country. Progress is being made in the alliance, I do not want to advance because there is a lot to talk about with all the opposition parties and at the time it will be We are going to make it known,” said Marinkovic, who once again ratified his pre-candidacy for the Presidency.
For his part, the national head of the MNR and mayor of Tarija, Johnny Torres, emphasized that this is the starting point to form the opposition alliance and a proposal is drawn up to get out of the economic crisis.
“We consider that we must be unconditional promoters of unification. A good part of the opposition was here, it will surely be difficult. We have exchanged criteria not only in the electoral system, but also in the programmatic order,” said Torres.
The former senator and founder of the Alliance for United and Solidarity Bolivia (Al-Bus), Carlos Borth, and the Aymara leader Rafael Quispe also participated in the political meeting in Tarija.
The former president and political leader Jorge “Tuto” Quiroga and representatives of the group Creo, of the governor of Santa Cruz, did not attend. Luis Fernando Camacho, due to problems with the air connection.
Other meetings are planned in the coming months to continue refining the alliance and the proposal, with the incorporation of other opposition leaders, including Manfred Reyes Villa.
