The Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD) reacted today to the deposit made before the Senate of the Republic of the Draft Law for the Modernization and Update of the Labor Codereiterating its firm position that the adjustment to unemployment proposed by the business sector forms an integral part of such an important reform.
“The industrial sector represented in our union considers that the time has come to adapt the issue of unemployment benefits to the current context, aware that this figure, in its current format, constitutes a brake on the generation of formal jobs in our economy” , argued Mario Pujols, Executive Vice President of the AIRD.
Likewise, the union indicates that the sector’s proposal would apply only to new jobs generated from the approval of this reform.
“The proposal, by right, by principle and by conviction, would apply only for the future and would not under any circumstances affect the rights acquired by workers currently on the payroll,” he stated.
Pujols indicated that this is a constant demand of the entire industrial sector, regardless of subsector or size of the companies.
“We trust that in the Senate we will be given the space to share our opinion on the submitted project, as well as the opportunity to explain our proposal in detail,” Pujols concluded.
