Venezuela proposes mediating political dialogue in Colombian crisis

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, presented this Friday the conclusions of the political forum and academic on the situation in Colombia, which took place in Caracas, in which the implementation of a dialogue process was proposed.

The chancellor read the statement entitled First political and academic forum on the situation in Colombia proposes a process of political dialogue in Caracas with the mediation of Venezuela, the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) and countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the People of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP).

“After the forum was held, given the worsening of the crisis in this country, as well as the execution of a coup d’état, publicly denounced by the president Gustavo Petroit is proposed to carry out a broad process of political discussion between Colombian actors, with the direct mediation of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, as a continuation of the efforts made by the Bolivarian Revolution in the peace dialogue processes with the different armed groups and the Government of the Republic of Colombia, which allow progress towards stability in this brother country,” the text states.

In addition, they proposed inviting the president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, who also holds the presidency. pro tempore from Celac; and to the member countries of ALBA-TCP, to contribute their good offices to the dialogue process and “to promote conversations that tend to build paths towards respect for popular sovereignty that guarantee the full well-being of Colombia.”

This dialogue would be based in the city of Caracas, where the political deliberations would take place, facilitated by the mediation of Venezuela, with the participation of Celac and ALBA-TCP.

“The discussions held in this forum have also reached a consensus on the importance of political and diplomatic relations between Venezuela and Colombia, which have taken on a positive dynamic since their relaunch two years ago with the arrival of the Government of President Petro,” he adds. the statement.

Likewise, he emphasizes that the proposal raised by the Colombian community in the country to join the forum’s initiatives has been welcomed.

Respectful recommendations

Minister Gil indicated that more than 60 delegates participated in the meeting and debated and analyzed the situation in Colombia, a forum that was convened by the Pedro Gual Institute of Higher Diplomatic Studies, the Simón Bolívar Institute and the Foreign Ministry.

The attendees contributed to developing proposals that will be delivered to the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, framed in cooperation, solidarity, complementarity, mutual support and respect for the sovereign decisions of the Colombian people.

“It is very important that we emphasize that these recommendations have a deep sense of respect for the values, the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter, for the sovereignty of States, for the free self-determination of peoples,” declared the chancellor.

Gil highlighted that the intention is not for this action to be seen as interference in Colombia’s affairs, but as a support process.
