“We do not speculate electorally”: Delgado reaffirms the position of the National Party against the social security plebiscite

"We do not speculate electorally": Delgado reaffirms the position of the National Party against the social security plebiscite

In an event held this Thursday, Delgado stressed the importance of maintaining a coherent position and away from electoral speculation.

«We have another conception of politics, not just anything is worth a vote. Being credible has to do with that, which is doing what you say, saying what you think, but acting accordingly. And in that sense, we are also consistent and coherent with what we thought before and with what we thought now about the Social Security plebiscite,” said the nationalist candidate, reaffirming that his party has maintained a firm position since the beginning of the debate on the reform.

Delgado affirmed that the National Party will not change its position regarding the plebiscite, highlighting that “we do not change our position based on a nomination.” According to the candidate, the plebiscite is “dangerous, irresponsible and inconvenient”, and he harshly criticized the proposal for its possible consequences: “It is irresponsible, it completely defunds, this destroys the system, not the reform of this government, of ’96.”

Likewise, he made a comparison with the situation of the AFAP in Argentina during the Kirchner government, warning about what could happen in Uruguay if the AFAP are repealed. «They told me, well, the same thing happened here with the Kirchners. In reality, yes, the same thing happened, they confiscated, they expropriated the AFAP savings from our savings,” he stated, pointing out that the Uruguayan AFAP funds are currently invested in productive and infrastructure projects.

Finally, Delgado criticized the Frente Amplio and its “own crew”, in reference to the alliance with the PIT-CNT, mentioning that a large part of its members support the plebiscite, although others “are left over on the white ballot.”

The National Party, Delgado reiterated, has taken a “clear position” by not supporting the proposal and not supporting the placement of the white ballot in the plebiscite.
