Fourteen days before the return to face-to-face classes, a report by the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef), whose title is “Children Out of School and at Risk of Educational Exclusion”, managed to establish that 100,700 children and adolescents, between ages 5 and 20 are excluded from the classroom, while another 192,400 face the potential risk of dropping out of the education system.
This information was revealed by the Unicef consultant, Irene Kit, who indicated that said report will be presented this Thursday, February 24, before the authorities of the Ministry of Education (Meduca), at the Amador Convention Center.
“The study also establishes that 89,000 members of the population group accessed the system, but failed to complete any level of education,” he stressed.
In total, 6,200 five-year-old girls and boys are out of school. Another 4,900 between the ages of 6 and 11 were also excluded from the system. There are 9,200 adolescents between 12 and 14 years old who are in the same situation, and another 24,400 adolescents between 15 and 17 years old in the same condition, and 56 thousand adolescents between 18 and 20 years old who do not attend school.
Statistics indicate that there are 21,776 middle and high school students at risk of exclusion. The rural areas and, particularly the regions, are the ones that show the highest proportions of exclusion, establishes the report, although without specifying the numbers.
