It is today the biggest award in Brazilian journalism and being in this gallery is the crowning of a life of dedication to journalism. Informing through images is what guides us, showing the reality that is printed in front of us without retouching”, said the photographer from EBC.

Reporting Paths

The award-winning report “Innocents in Prison” denounces the unjust arrests, especially of young black men, accused of crimes they did not commit. All identified as suspects due to the structural racism of Brazilian society.

“I’m very happy for my colleagues at Caminhos da Reportagem who work so hard to deliver the stories we believe in, with rigorous investigation and sensitive editing. I also keep thinking that each of the people heard on the program deserves a human rights award”, said the journalist from TV BrasilAna Passos.

“I hope that the young people who shared their stories with us spread and help combat the injustice of arrests based on mistaken photographic recognition”, considered the journalist from TV Brasil.

Public communication

For the president of EBC, Jean Lima, receiving the Vladimir Herzog Award is a recognition of the commitment that EBC and its professionals have to quality, ethical and responsible public journalism. “The work carried out by the Caminhos da Reportagem program and photographer Paulo Pinto reflects the essence of what we seek to deliver to the public: stories that inspire, denounce and make a difference in society. An agenda that was only possible with the return of a democratic government” , highlighted Jean Lima.

“This award not only recognizes the effort and dedication of our teams, but also celebrates the importance of public journalism in defending democracy and human rights.”

The director of journalism at EBC, Cidinha Matos, highlights that “the Vladimir Herzog award for the Caminhos da Reportagem program and the image of photographer Paulo Pinto reflect the importance of public journalism for the construction of citizenship, a commitment of EBC and its professionals.” The two awards also honor the TV Brasil and Brazil Agency in their daily work in defense of justice, human rights and democracy. To the award-winning professionals, a special compliment for the quality of the work and the effort to bring our vehicles closer to society and its most cherished values”, said Cidinha.
