Alianza Animal told TuBarco that on October 9, at 10:00 am, a group of walkers in Tunia, Cauca, apparently were trying to take a Belgian Shepherd dog.

Witnesses to the incident recorded the situation and called the police, but the authority never arrived.

In the video images it is observed that the dog was reluctant to go with them, due to the size of the dog that was lying on the ground, they were holding it by its paws.

Later, 200 meters from the scene, the dog was abandoned without vital signs. Therefore, they presume that his death would have been due to a strong blow.

The walkers are allegedly heading towards southern Colombia, which has raised alarms about the treatment that animals receive on their way.

The animal rights organization noted that the situation has been reported to Senator Andrea Padilla and Congressman Erick Velazco, who have promised to work on a law that protects animals in the hands of these groups. However, so far, no official statement has been received.

Given what happened, whoever witnessed the events will file an official complaint with the prosecutor’s office. So they are searching for a body to attach all the evidence of the case.

The organization pointed out that people from the sector buried it, and collaborators from the Alliance are in Tunia searching for the canine’s body to transfer it to a laboratory.

Alianza Latina Animalista has expressed its concern and has called on authorities to implement stricter measures. The organization proposes that walkers transporting animals without adequate documentation, such as entry permits and vaccination cards, be prevented from advancing.

“As an animal rights organization equipped with people from the different cities of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Mexico, border control, walkers who carry dogs without documents, entry permits, vaccination cards do not let them advance with the canines, or in “In their absence, a law that covers them,” they noted.

They ask for an immediate response from the government to address this serious problem. “We need the Ministry of the Environment, Migration, and the Ministry of the Interior to speak out since they are the entities in charge of controlling this problem in Colombia,” they concluded.

The community demands concrete actions to guarantee the protection of animals on Colombia’s roads.
