The La Julia sector, one of the most exclusive areas of the National District and home of President Luis Abinader, has been the scene of a series of robberies that have caused great alarm among its residents.
The most recent of these incidents, which occurred in front of the Rubí Tower, was captured by security cameras and quickly went viral on social media, raising questions about security in an area considered high profile.
In the video, two motorcyclists allegedly stripped a woman of her belongings, including money in dollars. The dissemination of this fact not only generated concern among the inhabitants of the sector, but also opened a public debate about security measures in prestigious areas such as La Julia.
In response to this situation, the National Police, through its Department C-6 Mirador Sur, reported that on October 4 it arrested Jhonny González, 43 years old, after being caught red-handed by residents of the area.
According to authorities, González, accompanied by an accomplice identified as “Maily” or “La Pájara,” had snatched a woman’s wallet, which contained personal documents and an unspecified amount of cash. The event occurred on Núñez and Domínguez streets, just when the victim was preparing to board a vehicle.
González was intercepted by residents and handed over to the police. During the interrogation, he confessed to having acted with a 15-year-old teenager, resident in Punta de Villa Mella. Subsequently, a police operation in that area resulted in the capture of the minor, who at the time of her arrest had US$822 in her possession, allegedly the proceeds of the robbery.
Both those involved are in custody and will be presented before the Public Ministry to face the corresponding charges.
