Luis Almagro demanded the immediate release of the teenagers detained during the post-election protests and that the torture stop
The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, issued a statement this Thursday, October 10, in which he reproaches in “the strongest terms the atrocities” that the administration of Nicolás Maduro committed against minors after the post-election protests, emphasizing that the minors were illegally detained.
In the text, Almagro warned that the actions by the State security forces against the adolescents contravene all international conventions on human rights and “lowering their limits of humanity and decency to the worst levels of barbarism.”
For the representative of the OAS, these human rights violations in Venezuela against adolescents show patterns of seriousness in this sense and that is why he stressed that the international community must ensure that these acts are punished and, in that sense, he asserted that they will continue to adopt measures to ensure that the weight of the law is applied to them.

Likewise, he pointed out that these actions are also part of a new “legal dimension” of responsibility of the Venezuelan authorities, referring to audios and reports that come from the detention centers where these minors who are subjected to humiliation and torture are held; which in his opinion are sufficient argument to request that this situation end.
Luis Almagro then demands that these teenagers be released immediately, the torture be put to an end and that all those responsible be brought to justice.
