IRTP on Enrique Chávez: It was not untimely dismissal, but that his service order was not renewed

In a statement published hours after Chávez announced his departure at the end of the “Cara a cara” program, the IRTP responded to the assertions he made about a lack of plurality on the state channel.

“His departure from TVPerú took place within the framework of the culmination of a service order agreed with the journalist, the same one that had a deadline of February 28 of this year. Today, the Press Office informed him that, in the framework of a restructuring in the programming, his service order would not be renewed “it reads in the text.

“This is not an untimely dismissal, but the communication of the end of their journalistic services”add the IRTP.

This Monday, February 22, Enrique Chávez concluded his television program informing that he had been informed of his dismissal that same day after spending 7 years on TVPerú.

“Evidently plurality has been my humble contribution to these through the governments of Ollanta Humala, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, Martín Vizcarra, the very brief Merino de Lama and of course Francisco Sagasti. Now we have reached this other situation where plurality does not seem to be the flag […] Today I was informed of my untimely dismissal”he expressed.

The IRTP indicates that Chávez made the decision to stop working on the program on February 22 with the possibility of expressing himself in an open signal “freely and without any type of restriction.”

“We thank you for the work done and the services provided”specifies the statement shared by the Ministry of Culture.

The institute concludes by denying that there is any type of takeover in the IRTP and assuring that plural journalism will continue to be the basis of all the contents of TVPerú.
