The president of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), minister Luís Roberto Barroso, said this Wednesday (9) that anyone who attacked the security of electronic voting machines lost credibility in this year’s elections.
Barroso’s statement was made during the opening of the Supreme Court session. The minister reinforced that the electronic voting system is fully auditable and is an example for other countries.
“One thing that caught my attention was the loss of credibility of those who attacked the credibility of the ballot boxes. This was no longer a problem because [tivemos] international observers, the opening of the source code a year earlier, monitoring by all parties, by the Public Ministry, by the Federal Police. There is no way to defraud the Brazilian electoral system”, he stated.
The minister also took the opportunity to praise the work of minister Cármen Lúcia, who presides over the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) and conducts the election.
The minister thanked the support and said that the electoral system “is Brazil that works”.
After the first round of elections, held on the 6th, voters in 52 municipalities across the country will return to the polls on the 27th of this month for the second round. There will be 15 capitals and 37 cities, all with more than 200 thousand voters.
In these locations, none of the candidates for mayor reached more than half of the valid votes, excluding blank and invalid votes, in the first round. There is no second round for councilors.
