SNTP: After 45 days without a conclusive act from the MP, Ana Carolina Guaita must be released

This October 9 marks 45 days since the arrest of journalist Ana Carolina Guaita, La Patilla correspondent in La Guaira, who was arbitrarily detained on August 20 and accused of crimes of terrorism, incitement to hatred and association to commit a crime.

The National Union of Press Workers (SNTP) denounced that the deadline has expired for the Public Ministry to have presented a conclusive act in your case.

«She remains imprisoned without the Public Ministry presenting a conclusive act. If she does not do so, Ana Carolina must be released,” highlighted the SNTP through a statement posted on social networks.

For their part, Guaita’s relatives also They demanded his immediate release in previous days. Her mother Xiomara Barreto pointed out that Guaita is a prominent journalist and athlete, a certified powerbike instructor, and denied the accusations of terrorism she faces for reporting on the citizen demonstrations that occurred on July 29 in La Guaira.

In a message spread on social networks, Guaita’s mother stressed that more than 40 days have passed since the journalist’s “unjust detention” and that in La Guaira many people know her and support her release, highlighting her integrity and career as professional and human being.

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) reported on Tuesday August 27 that precautionary measures of protection were granted to the journalist Ana Carolina Guaita because she considered that she was in a situation of “serious and urgent risk of irreparable damage to her rights” in Venezuela, but so far they have not been complied with.
