The Attorney General’s Office (AGU) reported this Wednesday (9) that it filed five lawsuits to collect R$89 million from individuals and legal entities accused of destroying native vegetation with fires in the Amazon.
The actions of environmental offenders were investigated by inspectors from the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) in the municipalities of Boca do Acre (AM), Lábrea (AM), Altamira (PA), São Felix do Xingu (PA) . Around 5 thousand hectares were deforested.
In the actions, the AGU requests the blocking of the defendants’ assets, the obligation to repair deforested areas and the prohibition of commercially exploiting the locations. The suspension of tax benefits was also requested from the Court.
The proposal of the actions was coordinated by AGU Recupera, the committee responsible for adopting legal measures to protect the environment and the country’s cultural heritage.
