In an unfortunate event that occurred on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 8, a traffic accident on the Uribia–Manaure road, specifically in the Ishachimana sector, left a devastating toll of five people dead, including two minors, as well as an undetermined number of injured.

According to preliminary versions circulating on social networks and local media, a vehicle with Venezuelan plates was transporting more than a dozen people on this busy route. The road accident occurred when the truck, apparently speeding, left the road and turned several times, causing the tragedy. “Four people died at the scene and one more arrived dead at the Uribia hospital,” reported Colonel Edinson Montaña, commander of the La Guajira Police.

The bodies of the victims were left lying on the road, while the injured were taken to various healthcare centers in Manaure, Uribia and Maicao. So far, the identity of the victims has not been confirmed, but it was known that they all belonged to the Wayúu ethnic group.
