The judge Fátima Veloz of the Office of Permanent Care Services of the National District adjourned the continuation of the hearing for knowledge of extent of coercion against seven natural persons and three companies linked to an alleged fraud of more than 1,317 million pesos in the contract for the Greater Santo Domingo traffic light network.
For this Wednesday the accused Carlos Peguero Vargas and José Ángel Gómez Canaán presenting their means of defense. He Ministry Public will have the option of replicas and then leave it in the hands of the judge the decision of the extent of coercion.
In his presentation, the Ministry Publicrepresented by the head of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca), Wilson Camacho and the Litigation Coordinator, Mirna Ortiz, requested 18 months of preventive detention and that the case be declared complex.
For the case Operation Chameleon the former executive director of the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation is pointed out (Intrant), Hugo Beras and the businessman Jochi Gómez as main accused.
The other five involved are Frank Rafael Atilano Díaz Warden, Dispatch coordinator and representative of Hugo Beras before the Purchasing Committee of the Intrant.

Pedro Vinicio Padovani Báez, former head of the Traffic Control Center.
Juan Francisco Alvarez, director Administrative and Financial Intrant.
Carlos José Peguero Vargas is identified as a partner of Jochi Gómez.
The companies that appear are: Transcore Latam, Aurix and Inprosol.
In this case, the Ministry Public, investigate an alleged network of corruption that would have involved at least seven people in a process that began with a tender of the Intrant. The irregularities include allegations of terrorism, espionage, organized crime, use of false documents, illicit enrichment and embezzlement.
The axis of the operation Chameleon is the tender public in which Jochi Gómez’s company was awarded more than 1,317 million pesos for the modernization of the traffic light system of Greater Santo Domingo.

According to Mirna Ortiz, at this Tuesday’s hearing the Ministry Public individualized the participation of each of the seven accused in the Operation Chameleonwith the items of evidence that supposedly demonstrate the accusations that are being made against them. He said they have more than 200 items of proof.
“With the items of proof that we have contributed, the court will have no other option than to accept the request made by the Ministry Publicconsisting of preventive detention,” Ortiz said upon leaving the court.
