The Superior Council of Fiscal Policy (Confis) granted the endorsement for the financial closing that will allow the contracting of the project ‘Construction of the Air Side of the Café Airport – Stage 1, Palestine’ to begin, which was presented by the Ministry of Transportation.

This endorsement comes after several years of work being paralyzed.
It should be noted that in this stage the construction of airport infrastructure will be carried out such as an aircraft movement area, runways, taxiways, taxis, hangars and platforms, to facilitate the operation of aircraft.
The Café airport, which will be located in the municipality of Palestine (Caldas), will improve the air connectivity of the region, promoting its export competitiveness, tourism development and sustainable economic growth of the entire region, in addition to the impact on local economies such as the export of services, ecotourism, agroindustry and other productive activities in the region. .

“The fiscal guarantee granted by CONFIS guarantees the necessary resources for the construction of the Café airport, a strategic project for the country that will not only continue to help the reactivation of the economy in the short term, but will also improve the air connectivity of Caldas. and will enhance the economic and social development of the entire Coffee Region,” stated Alexander López Maya, director of the National Planning Department.
For the construction of Stage 1 of this strategic project for the Coffee Axis, around $828,423 million will be invested at 2024 prices.

The endorsement of Confis and the formulation of the Conpes document will ensure the necessary resources for the continuity of the medium-term execution of the construction of the Café airport, project that is part of the National Development Plan 2022-2026 ‘Colombia, World Power for Life’.
The new airport will have better operating conditions than La Nubia airport, which serves Manizales, and which has limited capacity to serve passengers and cargo. Passengers will reduce their transfer distance to just 26 km to the Café airport, a significant improvement compared to the 59 km from the Matecaña airport in Pereira, or the 110 km from the El Edén air terminal in Armenia.
The construction of the air side of the Café airport – Stage 1, includes a paved runway 1,460 meters long (1,340 meters declared runway length) by 30 meters wide, enabled for day and night operations; and will have a security strip 1,460 meters long by 80 meters wide, 120 meters long from the RESA runway end security zones, in accordance with the provisions of the aerodrome construction permit.

In addition to taxiways, two platforms for commercial aviation and one for general aviation. It will also allow the takeoff and landing of ATR72 type aircraft with capacity for 78 passengers, both during the day and at night.
Once the future terms for the execution of the project are authorized, the pre-investment and investment studies of this emblematic project for the department of Caldas will begin.
