Cuban regime requests official entry into the BRICS group

MIAMI, United States. – The Cuban regime officially requested its accession to the BRICS group, according to reported this Monday Carlos Pereira, director of Bilateral Relations of the Cuban Foreign Ministry. The request was made through a letter addressed to the Russian ruler, Vladimir Putinwho holds the temporary presidency of the group in 2024.

According to a report From the state agency Prensa Latina, the Russian ambassador to Cuba, Víctor Koronelli, also confirmed the request and stressed that representatives of the Cuban Government have already participated in several Brics events throughout the year.

Koronelli also commented to Sputnik that Moscow hoped to see a Cuban delegation at the BRICS summit to be held in Kazan, from October 22 to 24. According to the Iranian news agency MehrMiguel Díaz-Canel has already received the corresponding invitation from Putin.

The BRICS group, which in 2010 added South Africa to the founding countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China), has grown in 2024 under the name BRICS+, with the incorporation of Egypt, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Iran . The presidency of the group falls to Russia since January 1 of this year.

The Russian regime has expressed that its intention is to “strengthen multilateralism for equitable global development and security.” In total, the Russian Federation will organize more than 200 political, economic and social events related to the BRICS.
