More women, black people and re-elected was the result of the vote for councilor in the São Paulo City Council. Seven more women were elected compared to the previous election, in 2020. With 16 black councilors, there are five more than in the last election.
The renovation of the chairs was minor. In comparison with the last legislature, when 21 new names were elected, this time 20 councilors were elected who were no longer in the Chamber.
The increase in the number of councilors was seven new women elected, from 13 to 20, which represents 36.3% of the total number of seats in the city’s Parliament. Among the most voted are Ana Carolina Oliveira (Podemos), with 129,563 votes; Amanda Paschoal (PSOL), with 108,654 votes; Luana Zarattini (PT), with 100,921 votes, and Luana Alves (PSOL), with 83,262 votes.
Compared to the previous legislature, São Paulo will have 16 black and brown councilors, five more than in 2020. Ten declare themselves mixed race and six, black. One candidate declared himself yellow, Kenji Palumbo (Pode).
Among those who declare themselves black are Luana Alves (PSOL), Pastora Sandra Alves (União), André Santos (Republicans), Sonaira Fernandes (PL) and Keit Lima (PSOL).
The number of re-elected people grew slightly compared to the last election, just one more compared to the previous election. 35 names managed to remain in the municipal Legislature. Four years ago, 34 councilors had won re-election.
In the final balance, the PT had the largest group, with eight members; MDB, PL and União came in second place, with seven representatives each, and PSOL finished with six places, as did Podemos. The PP had four, PSD three, Republicans and PSB two. PV, Novo and Rede Sustentabilidade have one representative each.
