Lacalle Pou inaugurated infrastructure works at a home for the elderly in Santa Clara de Olimar

The President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, inaugurated the second stage of construction of a home for the elderly in Santa Clara de Olimar, a work carried out with a contribution from the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works (MTOP) of 3,100,000 pesos, through the Social Agreements program. Likewise, the Social Security Bank (BPS) granted the center support of 900,000 pesos to purchase equipment.

The minister and the undersecretary of Transportation and Public Works, José Luis Falero and Juan José Olaizola, respectively, also participated in the ceremony; the president of the BPS, Alfredo Cabrera, the mayor of Treinta y Tres, Mario Silvera, and the mayor of Cerro Largo, José Yurramendi.

During the event, Lacalle Pou highlighted the importance of infrastructure for the benefit of the community. He argued that it implies a feeling that “one matters,” that “it is worth complaining” and joining efforts. In this sense, he indicated that community life involves “feeling with the other” and stressed: “We cannot allow the claim to be frustrated.”

The president stated that the completion of works is possible, among other factors, because it is “managed well” and “the country is better.” In this framework, he made reference to the current record of wage bill, which implies more people with work and the payment of better salaries.

Meanwhile, Minister Falero highlighted the importance of fulfilling government tasks and the duty to achieve the objectives of society throughout the territory. In this regard, he assured: “We continue to show people that, when there is the will to do things, it is possible.”

Finally, he made reference to “a forgotten interior” and noted: “Our obligation is to generate hope again.”

For his part, in statements to the press, the head of the BPS explained that the residential center was incorporated into the household registry carried out by the institution. Through these services, approximately 1,000 BPS users are served, for whom the organization supports “bed quotas.”

On this occasion, in addition, the BPS collaborated with technical support and with a contribution of 900,000 pesos for the place. Cabrera reported that, during the current period, the support provided to 84 homes totals about 40,000,000 pesos, and that about 20,000,000 are in the execution stage.

The works corresponding to the second stage of the construction of this home were financed through non-refundable financial support from the MTOP, through a social agreement signed in 2021, and include the construction of the infirmary, dining room, kitchen and changing rooms. From now on, the center will provide day and night care, with capacity for eight people. The amount of aid amounted to 3,100,000 pesos.

Inauguration of social headquarters for retirees and pensioners

In the afternoon, the MTOP and BPS authorities, accompanied by the departmental head of Treinta y Tres, visited the headquarters of the Association of Retirees and Pensioners of Santa Clara de Olimar (Ajupen), which is located in a building in UTE and was reconditioned through the Social Agreements program. On this occasion, the financial support provided by the MTOP was 1,400,000 pesos.

On the occasion, a social agreement was also signed with the Unión Obrero Club of the same town, which will receive 900,000 pesos to renovate the kitchen and bathrooms of its headquarters.

At the event, Minister Falero stated: “Today, an abandoned corner was transformed into an open door to the community,” in a meeting space that also includes a gym and library.
