They fear losing land fusion institutions

Temen perder tierras fusión instituciones

More than 60% of the agrarian reform lands have titling problems due to procedural problems

A group of landowners yesterday asked President Luis Abinader to grant property titles to those producers who have been working the land for years, since they understand that with the merger of the Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD) to the Ministry of Agriculture they would be taken away from them.

They also expressed their concern about the merger of the institutions, because with this action the IAD would disappear and the Law 58-79 on Agrarian Reform.

According to José Paulino, from the National Council of Farmers and Roberto Familia, from the Factories Association, many producers, who have been producing for more than 40 years, have had their lands taken away, a “mafia” that would worsen with the merger.

They said that there are 112 thousand parceleros throughout the national territory and more than 500 thousand would be directly affected with the disappearance of IAD, since, they understand, they would not have an institution that looks after only the parceleros.

“Although the Government has shown interest in definitive titling and in truth great progress, it is no less true that more than 60% of the lands of the agrarian reform have titling problems due to the fact that many acquisition procedures for these lands do not exist. “They were completed and many are on the list,” said the farmers.
