Although February is the month of the legislative recess in Congress, this Wednesday, February 23, they will return to their respective rooms to define the extension of the State of Exception in four provinces in southern Chile.
Unlike other occasions, this debate in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate is framed by two specific facts: that there is also a State of Exception in the north and that, if it is extended, it will run into the start of the government of President Gabriel Boric, open detractor of the measure. For this reason, in the right-wing hosts, the idea that Boric begins his mandate on March 11 with the Armed Forces in the street motivates.
However, until now, and despite the desire, that would not happen. This, because as indicated above, February is the month of legislative vacations and there are several who have not yet returned. Among the names that will not be here tomorrow are the deputies Catalina del Real, Andrés Longton, Leonidas Romero and Senator Manuel José Ossandón, among others.
Specifically, the RN bench would have eight fewer deputies, while in the UDI they are still calculating who will or will not be present in the Chamber. Meanwhile, in Evopoli, they assure that they will have full assistance and rule out that the approval of the measure is in danger.
in conversation with emmolthe RN deputy, Leopoldo Pérez, recognized that “we have practically 28 deputies who attend and the others are paired for different reasons, but there will be an attendance within the average”.
“I believe that the necessary quorum should be reached, because it is in nobody’s interest not to achieve it,” he added, along with recalling that the success of the renewal “does not depend on Chile Come on, even if we are 100%, we are 72, and therefore so much would be missing 6 votes (…) undoubtedly we are going to depend on some votes of the opposition”.
