The educational units of Santa Cruz will return to modality of distance classesat least for the next two days, due to intense air pollution caused by forest fires.

According to instructions released by the Departmental Directorate of Education of Santa Cruz, “the modality of distance educational attention will be changed on Tuesday, October 8 and Wednesday, October 9”.

Bolivia is in a situation of “national disaster” due to forest fires and the most affected department is Santa Cruz.

Dense smoke once again covers the capital of Santa Cruz and other municipalities.

Jhonny Rojas, coordinator of the Departmental Emergency Operations Center (COED), reported this Monday 58 active forest fires in 21 municipalities of Santa Cruz.

“Of these 58 active fires, we have 16 fire complexes, (that is) 45 that are under observation and 13 in combat,” he explained.
