National Hurricane Center indicated that Milton is already a category five hurricane

The National Hurricane Center (NHC in its acronym in English) of the United States reported this Monday, October 7, that the Milton system was raised to category 5, registering maximum sustained winds of 250 kilometers per hour and positioning itself north of the Yucatan Peninsula.

The meteorological formation can cause dangerous waves on the north coast of the aforementioned peninsula, just as the generation of strong winds is estimated to hit the west coast of Florida between the night of Tuesday and the early hours of Wednesday, October 9, so The population is recommended to follow the instructions of the authorities.

According to the newspaper The ReformationMilton is 160 km northwest of Celestún and 200 km west of Progreso, towns in Yucatán, indicated the National Water Commission (Conagua), which also reported that this hurricane will leave occasional rains in Campeche and Yucatán; intense occasional events in Puebla, Veracruz, Tabasco and Quintana Roo; and heavy occasional rains in Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Hidalgo and Tlaxcala.

The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, indicated that the forecasts indicate that Milton will not touch Mexican lands but will leave a high level of rain.

For his part, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis recalled this Monday that 51 of Florida’s 67 counties had already been declared under emergency before Milton’s arrival and stressed that it is expected to make landfall in the Tampa Bay area. on Wednesday night.

DeSantis said the state government is deploying trucks full of food and water, ambulances and flood protection systems to protect critical infrastructure in central Florida.

“We are also accumulating an additional 1.5 million gallons of fuel reserves and preparing them to be used as needed,” he detailed.

The hurricane has put Florida’s Gulf Coast on alert from Chokoloskee (Collier County) north to the mouth of the Suwanee River (Dixie County), including Tampa Bay and the Dry Tortugas, according to the National Weather Service.
