The INE challenges before the Electoral Court protection to stop the election of judges

The matter was registered under the file SUP-AG-209/2024 and it has already been assigned to the presentation of Judge Felipe de la Mata Pizaña, so he will be the one who prepares a draft sentence.

This comes after Morena’s coordinator in the Chamber of Deputies, Ricardo Monreal, asked the INE not to abide by the judge’s suspension.

“Ignore that it is an occurrence, that it is issued by a body that has no jurisdiction. The amparo trial and any suspension that arises from it is inadmissible according to constitutional (article) 61. They are not obliged to comply resolutions that originate from the violation of the Constitution and the violation of the principle of legality. They must continue with their work preparing what the organic law authorizes them at the time,” said the Moreno member.

So far, the INE has received nine suspensions to stop this election process, which is indicated in the recently approved reform of the Judiciary and which was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation, even by Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

The judicial reform establishes that the INE must hold the extraordinary election in June 2025 to elect the nine members of the Plenary Session of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN); Meanwhile, judges and magistrates will be relieved in a staggered and gradual manner.
