First round had 515 arrests for electoral crimes

The first round of municipal elections, held this Sunday (6), saw 2,618 electoral crimes and 515 arrests, according to a partial report from the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP) generated at 7:30 pm. Among the more than 500 arrests recorded so far, 22 were of candidates caught committing crimes.

Exit incidents accounted for the majority of electoral crimes, with 1,057 incidents. The crime of vote buying/electoral corruption was the second most committed, with a total of 423 occurrences. The balance also informs the records of irregular electoral propaganda, 309; violation or attempted violation of voting secrecy, 203; and disobedience to orders from the Electoral Court, 64.

Inspection agents seized more than R$520,000 in the incidents. Other seizures included 47 vehicles being used to irregularly transport voters and 28 firearms in the possession of those approached.

The data is sent to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security by state public security secretariats and by teams from the Federal Police, the Federal Highway Police and the National Public Security Force that operate in the states.
