AREQUIPA, Peru – Lis Cuesta, wife of the dictator Miguel Díaz-Canel, once again gained relevance on social networks with a publication about the Cuban reggaeton player José Manuel Carvajal, known artistically as El Taiger and who is in critical condition after being shot in the head.
Through a post on X (formerly Twitter), the infamous “first lady” of the Island referred to the division among Cubans. This, without mentioning that the largest migration crises in Cuban history have been caused and facilitated by the regime that she represents.
“Simultaneously, in several cities in Cuba and in Miami, there are people holding vigil for the life of El Taiger, a very popular urban artist there and here, who was the victim of a violent crime in South Florida,” Cuesta wrote.
“The Cuban nation is one, although hatred seeks to divide it. We hope he recovers and helps his family and friends,” he added.
Recently, the dictatorship and its spokesmen have ignored the deaths of other renowned artists, as became notorious in the case of actor Carlos Massola, a critic of Castroism.
However, after the incident with El Taiger, several state entities and cultural institutions they have not adopted the same media silence. This same Sunday the Cuban Institute of Music spoke out regarding the health of the urban artist.
In Cuesta’s publication, users attacked his double discourse and showed dissatisfaction with the current situation in Cuba, an issue to which they directed the attention of the leadership.
“Take care of Cuba, there is a lot of violence. The hatred that you and your husband, the dictator Díaz-Canel, have for Cubans who think differently, who today find themselves in the dungeons of the dictatorship, is very notable,” said an Internet user identified as Libertad12021.
“And you don’t feel sorry for the political prisoners in Cuba. You are very selective, you shameless old woman. Díaz-Canel is a murderer,” denounced Amapola, another user.
“Such a bastard! Take care of those who are dying in Cuba with leptospirosis, dengue and a bag of other diseases! They don’t even have reagents for analysis, the plate kits are useless! And you’re here to talk about the Taiger! “Disgusting,” said another profile with the name Takepi04.
Lis Cuesta Peraza, born on March 28, 1971, studied at the Institute of Pedagogical Sciences of Holguín, where she completed a bachelor’s and a master’s degree. Before his relationship with Díaz-Canel, he worked in the communication department of the Provincial Culture Sector, and later directed the Provincial Center for Books and Literature.
His visibility in the public sphere began when Díaz-Canel took office as first vice president of Cuba, but increased when he was named president. Since then, she has become a companion on international trips, an organizer of culinary events, doctor and defender of Castroism on social networks.
The good life of Lis Cuesta
Cuesta has even traveled alone to Chinato meet with the First Lady of the Asian giant, Peng Liyuan and address bilateral relations between both countries, as happened five years ago.
But more recently, last year, marked by the couple’s constant travel, Cuesta toured the colonial area of Santo Domingo, along with first ladies from the Dominican Republic, Argentina, and Paraguay.
In her travels around the world she has dined in lavish restaurants, rubbed shoulders with other government representatives and has been captured buying in markets, as happened in Granada.
In 2022, Cuesta’s outfit generated a wave of criticism when he wore some shoes of an expensive brand that is not accessible to Cubans who live off their state salary. On that occasion, he wore Salvatore Ferragamo shoes, valued at more than $350.
He was also back in the spotlight when he defended his thesis doctoral “Pedagogical model for the export of academic services in the Paradiso agency” with a Cartier brand watch, valued at thousands of dollars.
In the photos of Lis Cuesta’s doctoral defense, a Cartierwhich on the official site of the French brand appears as prices between 5,000 and more than 12,000 dollars.
In addition, Cuesta chairs the International Workshop Cuba Knowswhich aims to “promote the values of national Creole cuisine,” and which invites famous international chefs every year while on the Island thousands of people do not have anything to put in their mouths.
At these annual events, the first lady tastes dishes at the banquets, savors cigars and rum, and enjoys the evenings with her husband.
