They complain about the detention of minors in Immigration operations

This Sunday is the fourth day of the mixed operations for the deportation of haitians undocumented immigrants in the country, which the government has launched to achieve a goal of up to 10,000 a week, given the limited results of the peace mission in Haiti.

It was just after 11 in the morning, dozens of people gathered at the entrance to the Haina Vacation Reception Center. The anguish and desperation was visible in the family, friends and relatives who had been waiting for up to 10 hours for news of encouragement, without any hope.

A mother moved from La Romana because her twin children, minors, were “put on the truck” when they were returning from baseball practice, on Saturday at 11 in the morning, in the Villa Hermosa sector of the aforementioned province.

“They are dark-skinned, but they are good boys. The neighbors opposed it, but the agents did not listen and took them away,” said Manuela Martínez through tears, emphasizing that she does not have the resources to travel to the capital, while showing the minutes of birth of their offspring.

Another case is that of Joan Mercedes, who has a 17-year-old son detained at the center. The minor was heading to the grocery store at 8 p.m., when he was approached by the agents. Although he insisted that he was a minor and Dominican, they ignored him. Three hours later he was already detained with the other foreigners.

“It is not fair that a minor is imprisoned as if he were a criminal, especially with other Haitian nationals. I have spoken with him several times and he told me that he has not eaten anything, but they do not let us in either. One does not know what to do” , he indicated.

He pointed out that they explained to him that the person in charge of these cases is the National Council for Children and Adolescents (Conani), about which they have no opinion. Diario Libre contacted the institution, but it has not yet issued a statement.

They open and close the enormous doors of the center, but it is for the entry and exit of vehicles, and to scare away those who come to ask desperately about a son, brother, cousin or friend.

Juan Pérez stated that on Saturday night his nephew was arrested in a raid by the General Directorate of Migration. They showed him the birth certificate that certifies his Dominican nationality, but he said that the communication is “null,” because they don’t say anything and that worries them.

According to a source, this Sunday the operations will begin at 2:30 in the afternoon and will last until 8 at night. Along with the General Directorate of Migration The Police and the Armed Forces participate.
