After a long process of pre-campaign, campaign and transition, this October 5, Clara Brugada, who defines herself as a social fighter, took office as the first elected head of government, after governing Iztapalapa, the most populated district of Mexico City.

Thousands of people from different municipalities of the capital gathered in the vicinity of the Mexico City Congress to witness the moment of Clara Brugada’s arrival at the swearing-in ceremony as head of government.

Despite the hours of waiting, the spirits of the attendees did not falter. Between slogans and cheers, the popular support of different social sectors for Clara Brugada became evident.

After 9:00 in the morning, Brugada arrived at the Donceles and Allende venue, leaving behind her traditional and colorful handmade clothing to wear an elegant white dress adorned with a large silver bow that fell from her left shoulder to her waist, an outfit which reflected the sobriety and solemnity of the act in which she would be invested as head of government.

Since her arrival at Congress, Brugada was escorted by deputies from all parliamentary groups. Inside the venue, several special guests, including secretaries of state, political leaders, members of his cabinet and representatives of the powers of the union, were already waiting for the moment of his arrival at the plenary session to shout cheers and phrases such as “Head of Government” and “Yes it was possible.”

After the positions of local deputies, the Congress session paused for a few minutes to receive the president Claudia Sheinbaumwho accompanied Brugada for his inauguration.

Her speech was focused on highlighting the work that is to come and the struggle of women to gain space in power.

“We have no right to fail, I am a woman who perseveres, who knows the meaning of fighting, who does not stop in the face of adversity, who has walked and will continue to walk the streets to listen to the people. “As a woman, a social fighter and now as head of Government, I will work with joy, but also with firmness.” he remarked.
