The Minister of Economy and Finance, Felipe Chapman, participated this Thursday in a discussion titled “Financial fiscal strategy for the five-year period”, organized by the Economic Affairs and National Finance Commission of the APEDE, in which he presented the current economic and financial situation of the country.
During his speech, Chapman highlighted that next week he will be presenting the 2025 State budget before the Cabinet Council – if approved – it will be taken to the National Assembly. “We hope that next year, with greater economic growth, the State’s income will increase,” he said.
“We are in a difficult and challenging economic situation, we want fiscal discipline, to balance the accounts and as a society we can achieve it if we do not propose them. The State must be a facilitator that generates confidence among citizens, that sends market signals to citizens, that creates jobs and provides stability. Transparency is good business.”
For her part, the president of the Panamanian Association of Business Executives (APEDE), Giulia De Sanctis, considered that the Ministry of Economy and Finance has important challenges, mainly that of regaining trust in the institutions of the State and the country, whose objective is the recovery of our investment grade.
«We are going to achieve this with the containment of public spending that, as Panamanians, we are waiting for. On the other hand, they have to review all the existing rules of exemption and subsidies to verify if, in fact, these rules bring a benefit to the Panamanian State,” indicated the president of the union.
Finally, the Minister of Economy and Finance showed his position in favor of working to increase income and control expenses, highlighting that control of public finances is a priority.
