AREQUIPA, Peru – The Rossiya airline will resume its flight program between Moscow and Havana starting Sunday, October 13.
Rossiya, which belongs to the airline Aeroflot, will resume the flight program between the capitals of Russia and Cuba, with a weekly frequency, which will be on Sundays, the company’s website reported in a report cited by the state-run airline. Latin Press.
In December 2023, Rossiya launched seasonal flights on this route, which operated during the so-called high season of tourism on the Island, which coincides with the northern winter.
The company also operates flights from Moscow to the Cuban resort of Varadero, which since October 3 have a frequency of three times a week.
Rossiya airline, a subsidiary of Aeroflot, was founded in 1992 and is owned by the Russian Government. In 2006 it merged with Pulkovo Aviation Enterprise under the name Rossiya (or GTK Russia). The new airline began flying on October 29 of that year under a single flag.

The increase in flights from Russia to destinations such as Varadero or Jardines del Rey is part of the joint strategy between Moscow and Havana. The ban on the Eurasian nation’s airlines has projected the Caribbean island as a alternative destination accessible to Russian citizens.
In this scenario, the Cuban regime seeks to relaunch tourism, a sector that has not yet reached the levels prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, the opinions of many Russian visitors about the quality of services and conditions on the Island have given the Caribbean destination a bad reputation.
Elena Liseykina, a Russian tourist who visited Cuba recently, published an entry on the popular recommendation platform Yandex Zen with which it alerts potential visitors of scams on the Island, including the official currency exchange.
“Probably, most of the options for profiting from tourists are associated with exchange rates. And in general, the currency in Cuba,” the publication points out.
The tourist indicates the variety of exchange rates for dollars and euros that exist, mentioning the banking, the official and the informal market.
“In the black market They will offer you about 300 pesos for one dollar, while the official rate is only 120. Therefore, if they offer you an exchange at a lower rate, do not accept,” he explains.
