Brazil will have its public aerospace company to ensure the country’s self-sufficiency in aeronautical, space and military materials. Under the name Alada, the creation proposal was sent to the National Congress by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva this week.
A subsidiary of NAV Brasil (a state-owned air navigation services company), the new public company will also be responsible for carrying out projects and activities to support airspace control.
According to the bill, the objective is to economically exploit aerospace infrastructure and navigation and activities related to the development of aerospace projects and equipment. Another goal is to minimize the heavy dependence on foreign suppliers, especially for materials that involve sensitive technologies and that suffer from export restrictions, due to political criteria of the governments of their manufacturers.
Under the guidance of the National Defense Strategy, the PL creating Alada meets several national security criteria by supporting scientific development, research, scientific and technological training and innovation.
In the assessment of the Ministry of Defense, Alada will contribute to the country’s security, particularly its airspace, in addition to promoting the economic and social development of society.
