According to the residents, during the last few days the rainfall was surprising, causing the increase in the flow of the river. The water swept away everything in its path, such as the informal miners’ camps, located in the jurisdiction of the districts of Phara, Limbani and others.

The police confirmed the discovery of two inert bodies that were found in the Yana Orcco sector, the border between the districts of Coasa and Limbani. The unfortunate people were identified as: Percy Ccaso Huanca (36) and Hernán Flores Sillo (37).

Agents from the Limbani police station said that the bodies were swept away by the rising river flow while they were carrying out informal mining work. The water would also have swept away vehicles and machinery.

The mayor of the Alto Inambari district, Leo Calcina, said that a van that was crossing the river with two occupants was also swept away, so nothing is known about the driver and co-pilot. He added that there would be more missing.

The municipal authority said that it is in Lima, therefore, it has not yet reached the disaster area. He added that the water also caused a bridge to collapse. While the authorities of the Regional Government of Puno have not yet issued any information.
