“Much of the procedural delay is the responsibility of a Congress that does not approve the laws we ask for,” he stressed.
Arévalo gave these statements from Cajamarca where he carried out a series of activities typical of his management. This situation prevented him from attending the 14th ordinary session of the Council for the Reform of the Justice System in which he wanted to participate virtually but was not allowed.

At another time, Arévalo also spoke about the work carried out by the National Police in the fight against crime and, in that context, maintained that if a police officer in the act of duty causes injuries to criminals, they should be exonerated from all responsibility. or criminal sanction.
“The first to put their chests are the police, so the life of the police must be protected. There can be no criminal responsibility for the police who shoots down someone who attacks with explosives or weapons,” he indicated.
However, the president of the Judiciary also clarified that in cases of alleged police abuses, the issue must be investigated by the Police Inspectorate, and if it is established that there was an excess, it should be referred to the Prosecutor’s Office so that the process can be carried out. corresponding penal.
Arévalo also referred to the death penalty proposal formulated by Parliament. Along these lines, he pointed out that the initiative is “demagogical, illegal and inappropriate for a democratic country because it does not allow judicial errors to be corrected.”
“Nowhere has it been a deterrent, there is a life sentence, so I completely reject the death penalty with the Pact of San José or not,” he said.
