The journalist Enrique Chávez reported that he was untimely fired from the TV Peru channel, where he had been working for 7 years and hosted the program “Cara a cara”.
In the last segment of the program, Chávez affirmed that the state channel is going through a stage in the current government of the president peter castle “where plurality does not seem to be the flag”.
“Evidently plurality has been my humble contribution to these through the governments of Ollanta Humala, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, Martín Vizcarra, the very brief Merino de Lama and of course Francisco Sagasti. Now we have reached this other situation where plurality does not seem to be the flag”he expressed.
“Today I was informed of my untimely dismissal, so I want to thank you for the opportunity to let me into your homes all this time and -I insist- to put this grain of sand in what we have to understand in public communication”he added.
Enrique Chavez stated that his intention when entering TV Peru 7 years ago was “collaborate to build” that said means of communication go from being the Government’s signal to a public television channel, “what is what democracies should tell and what is what citizens deserve”.
“I have been a journalist for 25 years and 7 years ago I was lucky enough to get to TV Peru. Many colleagues at that time said: ‘beware of going to work at the state signal’, but the idea, the promise, the objective was to collaborate in building something that goes beyond what is called the state signal –some pejoratively call it channel of the Government – to a public television channel, which is what democracies should tell and which is what citizens deserve”he underlined.
