Moraes authorizes those investigated for coup acts to vote on Sunday

Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), authorized those investigated for the coup acts of January 8 to vote this Sunday (6), the date of the first round of municipal elections. The decision was handed down this Thursday (3). Moraes authorizes those investigated for coup acts to vote on Sunday

The decision was motivated by an action filed by the Federal Public Defender’s Office (DPU) and applies to the accused who are not arrested as a result of the investigation that determines responsibility for the acts.

Moraes authorized the relaxation of home confinement for those investigated and defendants on January 8th. They will be able to exercise their right to vote and go to the polling stations from 9 am to 11 am. The authorization also applies to the second round, scheduled for October 27th.

“Since voting is a fundamental right, in a judgment of consideration and proportionality, it is feasible to make the precautionary measure more flexible, momentarily, for the exercise of this right”, decided the minister.

Those investigated for the coup acts respond to the Supreme Court for the crimes of violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, coup d’état, qualified damage, deterioration of listed property and armed criminal association.
